Review: Jessi Ramsey, Pet Sitter (BSC Graphix 18) by Ellen T Crenshaw and Ann M Martin
This was a fun and entertaining read. It's been a long time since I read the original--so long that I was a little skeptical of this one going in. The number of pets the Mancusi family had seemed wildly extreme, as was the fact that they would trust an eleven year old kid they had never met before to care for them for an entire week. Then, of course, I had to remind myself that that this is a children's book and the plot is aimed squarely at the target audience. Also, it is worth remembering that Ann M Martin always liked to exaggerate things for dramatic and, sometimes, comic effect. And that a core theme of the books is the kids being responsible with as little adult intervention as possible. With that in mind, I started having a lot of fun reading this adaption. The story is a lot of fun and everything works out in the end. And, of course, I love the artwork and seeing the stories and characters reimagined in graphic novel format.
Recommended.
